Chapel of St.Catherine





Chapel of St. Catherine is situated at Old Goa. It is built of  laterite blocks and it has tower on either side of the facade.
The Chapel was rebuilt in 1952 on the remains of an earlier structure. Interior of the chapel is plain with only one altar. Afonso de Albuquerque built this chapel in 1510 to commemorate his entry into the city on St. Catherine's day. 

This chapel was enlarged in 1550 by governor George Cabral who put a inscribed slab which says 
' Here in this place was the doorway through which governor Afonso de Albuqierque entered and took the city from mohammadans on the day of St. Catherine in 1510 in whose honor and memory the governor , George cabral ordered to built this chapel in year 1550 at the expenses of His Highness '.
